Many of you know the struggles the University of Alabama- Huntsville Chargers hockey team have endured over the past year. But, D-1 NCAA hockey will be back in Huntsville.
I am so honored to pass along this letter from Sebastian Geoffrion of the Chargers:
Dear Friend,
I play division 1 hockey at the University of Alabama Huntsville and as you might have heard, our team has recently been down a rough road. Last year, after a series of unfortunate events, our school decided to end the Men’s ice Hockey program. But with the hard work and dedication of our enthusiastic fan base and loyal alumni, we were brought back and given another chance to play division 1 ice hockey. We will be playing at least one more season as an independent team before we find out if we are joining another conference.
This season is an especially exciting year for our program as we have a large number of returning players and are welcoming in an exceptionally talented freshman class. It will sure to be a season to remember as we once again compete against some of the top 10 ranked teams throughout the year. With that being said, my teammates & I have set a goal to raise $10,000, more specifically, 400 people donating $25.
This money will be used to provide the incoming freshman with a welcome on board package that consist of a duffle bag, work-out shoes, T-shirts, sweat suits and workout apparel so they feel like they are part of the team from day one. The remainder of the funds will be used to provide the existing players with the same package as the freshman will be receiving.
